Mexico’s first LEED Platinum office building cuts energy use with solar-control glass

Jan. 4, 2012

Glass, paint, and coatings from PPG Industries were used in the headquarters building of Bioconstrucción y Energìa Alternativa in Monterrey, Mexico, the first building in Latin America to earn LEED-NC Platinum certification. The 5,000-sf office building uses Solarban 70XL and Solarban 60 glasses, as well as Starphire ultra-clear glass. Speedhide paint was used on interior and exterior walls, and Pitt-Tech DTM industrial enamels were used to coat metal beams and structures. The low-e glasses combine visible light transmittance with solar control to reduce energy costs, helping the building achieve this milestone.
