The Kennedy Day School, part of the Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton, Mass., adds active classrooms and administrative space to the facility, which has served disabled children for more than 60 years. Designed by architecture firm Drummey Rosane Anderson and built by Nauset Construction, the $6.5 million, 21,000-sf facility provides 10 classrooms, a vocational skills center, a sensory-motor suite, culinary arts kitchens, an assistive technology lab, and office space. Specially cushioned sheet vinyl flooring helps minimize injury in case of a fall. Lift track systems, wide hallways, slip-resistant floors, automatic doors, and interior handrails enhance the handicapped-accessible design.
