Manhattan hotel evokes Japanese-inspired capsule design

Nov. 10, 2011

Inspired by business class airline cabins and Japanese capsule hotels, the Yotel in New York City uses light-hued and finished materials to achieve a modern and sleek design. The U.K.-based hotel encompasses 233,556 sf with a precast concrete façade illuminated by colored LEDs to attract passerby.

The Building Team, led by Arquitectonica, the Rockwell Group, and Focus Lighting, imbued the façade, public spaces, evening bar and lounge, and guest rooms with 1 watt per sf of lighting fixtures to create an intimate and luxurious environment.
