Landry High School in New Orleans was nearly destroyed when Hurricane Katrina swept through the area. Many believed the school would never reopen, but after receiving funds and grants from federal and state agencies, the school district hired a Building Team to rejuvenate the derelict facility. Eskew+Dumez+Ripple led the team, designing a sustainable new high school that retained the old building’s basic layout with modern upgrades. The Building Team chose ceiling applications from Hunter Douglas Contract to enhance the aesthetics of the facility while meeting LEED Silver certification requirements. About 33,000 sf of Hunter Douglas’s Hook-On metal ceilings and 37,000 sf of Turbrise metal tube-shaped baffle ceiling systems help create a unique learning space for students.
