The expansion of the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center, in San Leandro, Calif., has earned LEED Gold. Designed by a Building Team from HOK, Beverly Prior Architects, The KPA Group, Vanir Construction Management Inc., and Hensel Phelps Construction Co., the three-building center utilizes steel framing, precast concrete panels, GFRC precast panels, concrete masonry, and steel roofing. The new facilities—a 360-bed housing unit, courthouse, support facility, offices and classrooms, counseling rooms, a library and medical facilities—save seven million gallons of water per year and exceed energy requirements by 66%. Alameda County’s General Services Agency is the owner.
