Installation of bright new LED luminaires from BetaLED were an integral part of building and safety improvements made to the 1,700-student James Madison Memorial High School in Madison, Wis. A total of 45 new LED fixtures replaced the parking lot’s 14 mercury vapor lamps and the old 1,000-watt metal halide floodlights on the school’s façade. The BetaLED retrofit is expected to save the school $4,400 annually and have a 7.5-year payback period. The school’s facilities manager reduces all 45 luminaires to half power after 11 pm, which reduces energy consumption a further 30% over the previous lighting system. Annual maintenance savings is expected to be $2,320.
