After Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on the Superdome’s exterior walls, the home of the 2010 Superbowl-winning New Orleans Saints needed to be repaired, waterproofed, and upgraded aesthetically. Calmar Corporation, Kenner, La., was contracted to apply a polyurethane spray foam insulation developed by Burtin Polymer Laboratories for the massive project, which included 96 individual wall segments and a total of 400,000 sf of wall space. The material was selected for its ability to expand and fill cracks, its fast curing, its ability to inhibit mold growth, and for the structural strength it adds to the building. Spray polyurethane foam can provide resistance to shearing and racking from strong winds and hurricanes.
