With a tight deadline and budget, designers of Georgia State University’s four-building, 2,000-bed student housing complex needed a wall construction option that was quick to install. Worries about mildew forming in the humid southern climate helped them choose CarbonCast precast wall panels. The wall system was composed of 4 in. of expanded polystyrene between 2.5-in. outer panels connected with thermal-efficient C-GRID carbon fiber trusses. The system has an R-value of 12, and its carbon fiber grid helps prevent hot and cold spots, so the school was able to save money by purchasing a downsized heating and cooling system.
