As part of its quest for a LEED Silver rating for its Community and Student Services Center, Chabot College in Hayward, Calif., aimed for a 42% reduction in energy use. The school opted for SageGlass windows, which tint electronically to manage sunlight and heat gain, reducing the need for air conditioning, heating, and lighting. The windows work with air flow through natural roof ventilation scoops and a radiant slab to adjust the amount of heat transmitted, which lowers HVAC requirements by up to 25% and lighting costs by up to 60%.
