In early 2007, the Sidwell Friends Middle School in Washington, D.C., was awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum rating by the U.S. Green Building Council. The private school (Chelsea Clinton is an alumna), designed by Philadelphia's KieranTimberlake Associates, embraces sustainable design as a reflection of its Quaker values and commitment to environmental stewardship. GreenShape LLC, a local environmental building consultant, vetted all the green products for the $28 million, three-story, 72,500-sf project. Among those making the cut were USG's Millennia ClimaPlus Ceiling Panels and Fineline Ceiling Suspension System. The textured acoustical panels are manufactured using a process that maximizes sound and anti-sag performance. Composed of 74% recycled content, they are low in volatile organic compounds and formaldehyde emissions.
