The metroHealth System recently unveiled plans for a new 11-story Acute Care Hospital on its 52-acre Cleveland campus. HGA designed the new facility as part of a master plan that reveals a “hospital in a park,” where 25 acres of former surface parking in the northeast corner of the campus will become a park-like space that connects patients, visitors, and staff to the benefits of nature.
The Acute Care Hospital will include private patient rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, accommodations for overnight family visits, and the flexibility to incorporate ICU capabilities. The facility uses a Process Neutral Design approach that utilizes assembled rather than constructed parts to create a flexible, neutral platform where rooms and spaces can quickly be reconfigured depending on patient needs, advances in care, and changing programs.
Visitors will enter the building from the west-facing entrance and be greeted by a two-level front lobby with a gift shop, dining area, and open space for community performances from local choirs or ballet companies. The new hospital will be connected to the Critical Care pavilion via an enclosed overhead walkway.
