Taking the rebelliousness out of skate boarding by doing it in a designated area may seem less fun, but Guy Holloway Architects of the UK are proposing what they call the “world’s first multi-story skate park."
Designers say the scheme is perfect for urban spaces, because it offers a larger skateable area on the same footprint of land if it were built only one storey. But the 10,800-sf space won’t be all skate park—the building will also have a rock climbing wall, trial cycling path, and boxing facilities, making it what Gizmag calls “an urban sports center.”
The firm hopes the facility can become a “major new indoor activity center that will be the finest of its kind in the region.” The area’s youth are encouraged to go by providing them with subsidized entry rates.
According to Gizmag, a public forum will be held to take place this week. If approved, the project is expected to begin construction in September this year and will be completed in 2016.
Gizmag has the full story.
