Guide for understanding medical monitoring requirement of OSHA silica standard released

Center for Construction Research and Training gives advice on new regulation.

By Peter Fabris, Contributing Editor | December 5, 2017

The Center for Construction Research and Training made available a guide to help employers understand the medical monitoring requirements in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's silica standard for the construction industry.

The guide addressing 29 CFR §1926.1153 Respirable Crystalline Silica gives advice on how employers can set up the program for their employees. OSHA began fully enforcing the rule on Oct. 23.

The rule applies to all exposures in construction except where worker exposure to silica dust remains below 25 micrograms per cubic meter of air as an eight-hour time-weighted average.
