Sue Klawans has been named director of operational excellence and planning for Gilbane Building Co. A vice president with the company and long-time leader of client satisfaction initiatives, Klawans will assume a wide range of responsibilities with a direct focus on improving value to clients through a Lean approach including collaboration, efficiency and continuous improvement.

In her new role, Klawans will serve as a champion for business process and technical training efforts, help ensure a ‘one-company’ execution of planning efforts and other initiatives, oversee and support client satisfaction efforts, direct the customer service team for Gilbane’s online and mobile project management applications, and work closely with the Company’s internal peer groups to advance Lean operations. +

Austin area evacuation center will double as events venue

A new 45,000 sf FEMA-operated evacuation shelter in the Greater Austin metropolitan area will begin construction this fall. The center will be available to house people in the event of a disaster such as a major hurricane and double as an events venue when not needed for emergency shelter.
