FxFowle announced the formation of a joint venture with CO Architects, a nationally recognized academic, research lab, and healthcare planning and design firm based in Los Angeles.
FxFowle and CO Architects creates a dynamic alliance built on a shared dedication to collaboration in process, innovation in programming, and excellence in design. Bringing together expertise in a vast range of architectural typologies, the formation of CO/FxFowle offers new and current clients worldwide the benefits of both noted firms. The joint venture represents a genuine collaboration between the two firms in all project services, rather than the customary design architect/associate architect relationship. Formed in order to expand each firm's geographic and expertise reach, this joint venture differs from those that are created to blend qualifications for one specific project.
Although both FxFowle and CO Architects have worked nationally and internationally for decades, the joint venture will also bolster geographic access with expanded typology experience. While historically focused on different project types, both firms overlap in culture and philosophy. They share a commitment to sustainable design and are industry leaders in their use of advanced building and design technologies.
Each firm will maintain its individual identity and operations while pursuing new projects together as CO/FxFowle. FxFowle's strength in urban planning, infrastructure, commercial, cultural, and education projects complements CO Architects' extensive experience in healthcare, science and technology, medical-education, and civic typologies. With its Building Team partners—architect Solomon Cordwell Buenz, structural engineer CS Associates, and M/E engineer McGuire Engineers—Walsh Construction, acting as its own contractor, turned the former automobile showroom and paperboard package facility into a 93,000-sf showcase of sustainable design and construction.

2012 Reconstruction Award Silver Winner: Residences at the John Marshall, Richmond, Va.
In April 2010, the Building Team of Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio, Stanley D. Lindsey & Associates, Leppard Johnson & Associates, and Choate Interior Construction restored the 16-story, 310,537-sf building into the Residences at the John Marshall, a new mixed-use facility offering apartments, street-level retail, a catering kitchen, and two restored ballrooms.

The Building Team, led by local firms Caldwell Associates Architects and Greenhut Construction, had to tackle several difficult problems to make the historic building meet current Defense Department standards having to do with anti-terrorism, force protection, blast-proofing, and progressive collapse.
