A former Occupational Safety and Health Administration official has been publishing information about fines and safety violations after the Trump Administration halted the practice.
OSHA, under Trump, had ceased releasing so-called ‘shaming’ press releases with information about companies who were cited or received major fines for not adhering to safety regulations. Jordan Barab, former deputy assistant secretary at OSHA under President Barack Obama, has been publishing the information on his blog, “Confined Space.”
Barab asserts that the descriptive press releases helped drive home the importance of workplace safety. This is a necessary tool, Barab, asserts because OSHA has a relatively small inspection staff.
Barab has posted 2017 citation and fine information from January 18 to February 14, with several construction companies mentioned on the list.
