Design and engineering firm Atkins, as the result of a commission by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), has unveiled its design scheme for the Window of Guangzhou.Ā
The project is a series of independent, window-shaped office buildings designed to mark the city's history as the first port city in China to be opened to international trade.
Located on the historic Silk Road, the city is also situated on the Zhujiang River. The new office towers will be right on the water, Arch Daily reports.Ā
The towers will be shaped so that they read "001," in keeping with the theme of the city's trade history. In addition, the window-shaped buildings will allow buildings behind them to continue enjoying river views. The Window of Guangzhou development is slated for completion in 2018.
