First look: China's latest office development will take the shape of binary code

Design and engineering firm Atkins, as the result of a commission by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), has unveiled its design scheme for the Window of Guangzhou.

The project is a series of independent, window-shaped office buildings designed to mark the city's history as the first port city in China to be opened to international trade.

Located on the historic Silk Road, the city is also situated on the Zhujiang River. The new office towers will be right on the water, Arch Daily reports.

The towers will be shaped so that they read "001," in keeping with the theme of the city's trade history. In addition, the window-shaped buildings will allow buildings behind them to continue enjoying river views. The Window of Guangzhou development is slated for completion in 2018.

It’s no accident that the word “Highline” is in this project’s name. The goal is for the building to be a kind of gateway into the larger redevelopment of the surrounding neighborhood to resemble New York’s City’s trendy downtown Meatpacking District, through which runs a portion the High Line elevated park.
