Kingspan Insulated Panels North America’s wall and roof systems earned an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), the first of its kind awarded to a North American based manufacturer of exterior roof and wall panels.
EPD is a standardized, internationally recognized tool for providing information on a product’s environmental impact. Information in the declaration is based on an ISO-compliant life cycle assessment and verified by a third party, in the case of Kingspan, Underwriters Laboratories Inc.
The detailed analysis considers all processes in the manufacture of a product, from the extraction and refining of raw materials to energy use and efficiency, content of materials and chemical substances, emissions to the air, soil and water, transport methods and materials, and waste generation, ultimately helping companies understand their environmental footprint in order to consider improvements.
EPD programs are applicable to all products and services within clearly defined product groups and service types, allowing for the comparison of products in the same product category. As a result, customers can use EPDs to make sustainable purchasing decisions. BD+C
