DOD should continue LEED-Silver or equivalent rating standard, says NRC

By BD+C Staff | April 10, 2013

The Department of Defense should continue to require that its new buildings or major renovations to facilities be designed to achieve a LEED-Silver or equivalent rating, says a new report from the National Research Council. The report concludes that green building certification systems such as LEED offer frameworks for successfully reducing energy and water use in buildings. The report found that DOD's current policy is sound, adding that not every high-performance or green building will have significant energy and water savings even if it is certified at a LEED-Silver or equivalent.
