The Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) tracks reports of K-12 school shooting incidents across the U.S.

The resource has recorded more than 1,360 such incidents since 1970. The database aims to include every instance a gun is brandished, is fired, or a bullet hits school property for any reason, regardless of the number of victims, time of day, or day of the week.

All of the information is based on open-source information and third-party reporting. Each incident is mapped, and the basic information is encapsulated.

Graphics show how the data can be visualized and additional customizable charts are available at: www.chds.us/ssdb. The raw data is available for download, and includes more than 60 different data fields for each of the 1,360 incidents that can analyzed individually or in aggregate.
