Summit Design + Build, LLC recently announced that construction is underway for City Winery Chicago, a fully operational urban winery and tasting room, restaurant with outdoor wine garden, concert hall and private event space.
According to Summit Design + Build, the building, a former refrigerated food distribution warehouse built in the early part of the 20th century, is being renovated into a contemporary winery and hospitality facility.
The Building Team is maintaining the old brick and timber construction, while adding 5,000-sf of new construction in the form of a two-story addition within the site’s existing courtyard.
The new addition will keep with the feel of the existing building while incorporating a 30-foot-high modern glass curtain wall that will showcase views of the building from both inside and out. Upon completion, the new 33,000-sf facility will feature high exposed ceilings, reclaimed wood beams, masonry, arched brick openings, and interior glass partitions so patrons can view the daily winemaking operation. U.S. embassies on a mission to green the world's buildings
The U.S. is putting greater emphasis on greening its worldwide portfolio of embassies. The U.S. State Department-affiliated League of Green Embassies already has 70 U.S. embassies undergoing efforts to reduce their environmental impact, and the organization plans to increase that number to more than 100 by the end of the year.

USGBC debuts LEED for Healthcare

Southern Illinois park pavilion earns LEED Platinum
Erin’s Pavilion, a welcome and visitors center at the 80-acre Edwin Watts Southwind Park in Springfield, Ill., earned LEED Platinum. The new 16,000-sf facility, a joint project between local firm Walton and Associates Architects and the sustainability consulting firm Vertegy, based in St. Louis, serves as a community center and special needs education center, and is named for Erin Elzea, who struggled with disabilities during her life.

Virginia hospital’s prescription for green construction: LEED Gold
