In search for a new, iconic central business district for Shenzhen, a city in southern China, the Shenzhen Bay Super City Masterplan International Competition committee awarded a design by Urban Future Organization and CR-Design with the highest prize, ArchDaily reports.
The competition’s prompt was to design a new, 170-hectare financial district for Shenzhen, similar to La Défense in Paris or Canary Wharf in London.
But “Cloud Citizen,” the proposal submitted by Urban Future Organization imagines something out of this world: a complex of cloud-shaped skyscrapers connected to one another with sloping bridges that double up as functional space, designed to seemingly float on top expansive gardens.
The complex will include sustainable features such as rainwater and solar power harvesting areas. The buildings will also store carbon and filter pollutants from the air.
