Clean Currents supplies green energy to Foulger-Pratt

August 11, 2010

Clean Currents LLC, a Washington, D.C.-area clean energy business, has supplied wind energy in the form of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for the Foulger-Pratt Companies, a leading D.C.-area property developer and owner. Foulger-Pratt’s yearly purchase of more than 34 million kilowatt-hours of wind energy will result in approximately 4.8 million sf of its Class “A” office space now being powered by wind energy. The annual purchase will also offset approximately 54 million pounds of carbon, the leading greenhouse gas causing climate change. That's equal to removing over 4,500 cars from the road.

“Foulger-Pratt is leading the way for greener development and sustainability with this purchase of wind power,” said Gary Skulnik, President of Clean Currents. “Foulger-Pratt's wind purchase puts them among an elite group of businesses in the D.C.-area making the largest green energy purchases.” A purchase like this also has economic value as it allows the customer to lock in the rate or power, thus controlling cost for a determined period of time. Clean Currents and members of their team have negotiated and brokered wind power purchases and RECs with a number of area developers including Minshall Stewart, Lerner Enterprises, The Tower Companies, and Centex Homes

The purchase is among the top 40 of the largest 100% green energy purchases in the country, and makes Foulger-Pratt eligible for the U.S. EPA Green Power Partnership Leadership Club.

“Wind Power as provided by Clean Currents allows Foulger-Pratt to implement a sustainable energy solution and more effectively meet the energy needs at our properties in Virginia and Maryland,” said Bryant Foulger, Principal, The Foulger-Pratt Companies. “Foulger-Pratt is committed to implementing environmentally conscious strategies in every property we develop, construct, manage and clean; this is a core business policy for the firm and we hope a model for others in our industry,” said Foulger. Foulger Pratt’s current portfolio includes over 4.8 million square feet of space.
