Callison strengthens retail design presence with RYA acquisition

August 11, 2010

Callison LLC on June 1 acquired RYA Design Consultancy, a Dallas-based retail architecture and design firm with offices in New York City. The new “Callison RYA Studio” will merge staff and clients into Callison ’s existing retail practice at their Dallas and New York offices.

“Combined, Callison and RYA represent the strongest, award-winning retail design practice for renowned global brands,” said Callison President John Bierly. “Together we can provide a full retail consultancy for clients around the world—concept and prototype design, multiple project delivery, branding, graphics, merchandising and real estate strategies among other services—as well as helping to position our store clients as potential tenants through Callison’s design work on mixed-use retail centers around the world.”

RYA specializes in retail design for U.S. and international department store and specialty retail brands. Their clients include Printemps, Palacio de Hierro, Rustans, Parkson and Shinsegae.

“We are looking forward to joining Callison and increasing the value we provide to clients as well as growing our international retail business as a combined entity,” said RYA CEO Tom Herndon. “Our mutual commitment to design excellence and client service is a natural fit.”

Callison, the number one retail design firm in the world (World Architecture, 2003-2008), plans and designs retail, mixed-use, residential, corporate, hospitality and healthcare projects worldwide.
With offices in Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Shanghai, London, Dubai, Mexico City and Bangalore, Callison is one of the largest architectural design firms based in the United States with 600 professional staff. Detroit’s Michigan Central Station, centerpiece of innovation hub, opens

The recently opened Michigan Central Station in Detroit is the centerpiece of a 30-acre technology and cultural hub that will include development of urban transportation solutions. The six-year adaptive reuse project of the 640,000 sf historic station, created by the same architect as New York’s Grand Central Station, is the latest sign of a reinvigorating Detroit.
