Once seen as a cost burden, building to LEED standards is now an "easy call," according to Dan Probst, chairman of energy and sustainability for real estate management and development firm Jones Lang LaSalle.
"Recycled building materials used to be rare, and cost more, but now they're so common that they cost less," he says. "In other cases, the upfront cost of sustainable features is still higher, but the payback period is so short that it's an easy call."
