UL Environment announces gypsum board standards at Greenbuild

Northbrook, Ill.-based Underwriters’ Laboratories Environment announced the publication of one its first green building product standards, ULE ISR 100, a standard for gypsum wall board and panels. USG was the first company to earn Gold level certification under ULE ISR 100 for its Sheetrock Ultra Light panels produced in its East Chicago, Ind., plant.

Northbrook, Ill.-based Underwriters’ Laboratories Environment announced the publication of one its first green building product standards, ULE ISR 100, a standard for gypsum wall board and panels. USG was the first company to earn Gold level certification under ULE ISR 100 for its Sheetrock Ultra Light panels produced in its East Chicago, Ind., plant. The ULE ISR 100 standard evaluates product attributes including materials management, energy use, water use, manufacturing and operations, health and environment, product performance, product stewardship and innovative processes.

Marcello Manca, Vice President & General Manager of UL Environment at the Greenbuild Expo in Chicago, said ULE is currently working on and hopes to publish standards for mobile phones and drop ceiling tiles by early 2011.
