The United States Tennis Association’s Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y., is in the midst of a three-phase renovation that includes the construction of two new stadiums, as well as installing a retractable roof over the existing Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Phase one includes relocation of practice and tournament courts, plus construction of the $100 million roof, designed by Rossetti and built by Hunt Construction Group.
Phase two will include construction of the 8,000-seat Grandstand Stadium and relocation of field courts to make room for a larger pedestrian and fan esplanade.
The 15,000-seat Louis Armstrong Stadium will be built in the final phase, which will also include upgrades to the east entrance. As a result of the $550 million project, the National Tennis Center will be able to accommodate an extra 10,000 people each day of the 2018 US Open.
