This CEU will introduce you to the carbon footprint concept and how materials selections can impact it. We’ll go over the Aluminum life-cycle and understand how using aluminum with recycled content can significantly reduce a project’s carbon footprint. We’ll compare aluminum siding with other popular options such as vinyl. Wood and fiber cement. We’ll explore the various recycling centers available in the US and where you can recycle the various types of construction products. We’ll talk about the benefits of Passive House - including how it can help minimize environmental impact, increase energy efficiency and help projects reduce carbon emissions. We’ll also address the concepts of Circular Economy and the AIA 2030 Commitment and how architects actions can impact this. Lastly, we will share some case studies from various residential and commercial projects.
