Alliance brings BASF Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF)
roofing to 1,100-city purchasing consortium and C40

WYANDOTTE, MI, November 19, 2007 – BASF today announced that it will offer member cities of the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) its spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roofing.  The announcement coincides with former President Clinton’s announcement of CCI’s expanded efforts to make energy-efficient and clean-energy technologies available to 1,100 cities at the U.S. Conference of Mayors.  The aim of the CCI is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by providing sustainable solutions to cities around the world.  SPF roofing offers superior waterproofing and insulation properties, and also can be applied over the top of existing roof layers.  This provides the further benefit of eliminating the need to send waste to a landfill.

Through CCI’s partnership with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, an additional 1,100 U.S. cities will gain access to volume discounts on energy-efficient and clean-energy products and technologies through CCI’s purchasing consortium.  These benefits were previously available only to the C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group, a group of 40 of the world’s largest cities that are working in concert to fight climate change.
"Climate change is a global issue that we must address immediately if we are to reverse its catastrophic effects," said President Clinton. "I am pleased that the U.S. Conference of Mayors and many businesses are working with my foundation to supply energy efficient and clean energy products. By offering these products at a discounted rate, we can ensure that more cities and citizens have access to them and that the market for clean energy technology will grow. Together, I hope that we can have a measurable impact on greenhouse gas emissions around the world."

“Spray polyurethane foam roofing is just one of the ways BASF is helping to provide a more sustainable future,” said Joel Johnson, general manager, BASF Polyurethane Foam Enterprises.  “SPF roofing provides insulation that reduces energy consumption, and in turn, greenhouse gas emissions.  We’re extremely pleased to be associated with the Clinton Climate Initiative and to help CCI achieve their goals.”
Building on his long-term commitment to preserving the environment, President Bill Clinton launched the Clinton Climate Initiative in August 2006 with the mission of applying the Foundation’s business-oriented approach to the fight against climate change in practical, measurable and significant ways.
