Baker Barrios Architects, a multidisciplinary architecture and design firm with projects across the U.S., announced two new additions to its leadership: Chris Powers, RA, AIA, NCARB, EDAC, as Associate Principal and Director (Healthcare); and Mark Kluemper, AIA, NCARB, as Associate Principal and Technical Director (Multifamily) for the firm’s multifamily and mixed-use practice teams. Powers is based out of the firm’s Nashville office, while Kluemper is located in the firm’s Chicago office.

According to Baker Barrios co-founder and CEO, Tim Baker, these roles support the firm’s continually growing national portfolio of business.

“For the past five-plus years, Baker Barrios has set our sights on growing from Central Florida’s largest architecture firm to becoming known nationally across multiple sectors,” said Baker. “Healthcare and residential are two areas where we see great opportunity. Chris and Mark are joining us at a time when Baker Barrios has many exciting projects in the works—including a free-standing emergency department for Halifax Health, and other clinical and acute care projects on the healthcare side, and dozens of multifamily projects, too, including one for Tandem Development in Tampa, Fla., and LIV Development’s Livano at Sunlake in Lutz, Fla. In fact, we’re on track to exceed our work done in both sectors compared with last year.”

Architecture Firm Gains New Healthcare, Multifamily Leadership

Powers brings more than two decades of experience in planning, design, and construction in the healthcare sector, including serving as the Senior Director of Design and Construction for HCA Healthcare.

“Chris is very well-known in the healthcare market, particularly in the Nashville region. His relationships coupled with his extensive experience in designing and managing the construction of a multitude of healthcare projects will make him an invaluable resource to our firm and our clients,” said Baker.

Kluemper has over 30 years of architectural experience in all facets of design, documentation, and project and personnel management. He most recently served as Director of Architecture with KTGY Group and Managing Director for Chicago-based OKW Architects.

“Mark’s ability to achieve client goals while ensuring projects are fundamentally sound makes him a tremendous asset to all who work with him,” said Baker. “He is passionate about being hands-on throughout the entire process to ensure design excellence for every project he touches.”

Baker Barrios currently has 82 multifamily and healthcare projects in various stages of design and construction, as well as more than 300 other projects across its other practice areas, including student housing, senior living, hospitality, and entertainment.

“Perhaps more than any time before, there is an exciting shift in the architecture industry,” Baker noted. “New technologies and a trend toward holistic design present opportunities for creating transformative projects. Whether it’s multifamily, healthcare, senior or student living, municipal projects, affordable housing or master-planned communities, we are designing for the future, and Baker Barrios is proud to be at the forefront of this fresh and impactful approach to design and placemaking.”
