The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) has released the “AAMA 2017/2018 Study of the U.S. Market for Windows, Doors and Skylights.”

The report includes information on residential and non-residential market trends and product relationships for windows, doors, skylights, curtain walls and storefronts. Forecasts are based on projections of construction activity as of March 2018.

Storefront applications and site-fabricated commercial windows combined account for 54% of the non-residential market. Shop-fabricated commercial windows, which include residential and light commercial windows, as well as architectural windows, represent 23% of the market.

Curtain walls make up the remaining 23% of the non-residential vision area. All categories were up from 2015. The 2017 market for non-residential entry doors was up 6% over 2016 and up 12% since 2015. The estimate of total U.S. market for commercial unit skylights in 2017 was up 6% from 2015. Unit sizes commonly average from 22 sf to 25 sf, but can vary dramatically.
