50 Penn, a transit-oriented, mixed-use development in the Cypress Hill area of East New York, recently broke ground. The nine-story, 211,000-sf structure is being built on a former industrial site that was remediated by the Brownfield Cleanup Program.
The development will provide 218 units of 100% affordable housing and a healthy grocery store on the ground floor. 42 of the 218 units will be dedicated to formerly homeless and elderly households. Building amenities include recreation space, a fitness center, and storage space for bicycles and vehicles.

50 Penn will also feature sustainable elements such as green roofs, rooftop photovoltaic panels, a highly insulated exterior wall system, and landscaped outdoor space. The project, which was designed by Dattner Architects, is slated for completion in 2021.
