1. Istanbul opens biggest base-isolated hospital in the world (BD+C) 
"The 1-million-sm, $1.5 billion Basaksehir Cam and Sakura City Hospital, located near the North Anatolian fault of the Europe side of this city, features 2,068 seismic isolators. It is designed—by Perkins and Will’s Washington D.C. office, in collaboration with the Turkish firm Yazgan Design Architecture—to meet ASCE 41 “Immediate Occupancy” seismic performance objective under a rare earthquake event."

2. AIA issues tools for reducing risk of COVID-19 transmission in buildings (BD+C)
"The initiative included a team of architects, public health experts, engineers, and facility managers who developed strategies to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission in buildings, promote social distancing standards, and “enhance wellbeing in communities transitioning to new lifestyle norms.”

3. 60-unit independent senior living facility completes in Crystal Lake, Ill. (BD+C) 
"The 63,000-sf, 60-unit facility features 48 one-bedroom and 12 two-bedroom units. This includes six ADA-accessible units, 12 adaptable units, and two sensory units. The project includes amenities such as a fitness area, theater room, community rooms, computer rooms, a gazebo, and outdoor spaces spread across approximately five acres of landscape and hardscape."

4. Contractors hire medical professionals for COVID-19 guidance, site visits (Construction Dive) 
"Now that moratoriums on nonessential construction have been lifted across the country, contractors are getting back to work with new protocols and provisions in place. From tool sanitization, hand-washing stations, staggered work schedules and mandatory face coverings, an emphasis on clean and healthy jobsites is driving a new way of building."

Nonresidential construction spending decreased 0.2% in June

National nonresidential construction spending declined 0.2% in June, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data published today by the U.S. Census Bureau. On a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, nonresidential spending totaled $1.21 trillion. Nonresidential construction has expanded 5.3% from a year ago.
