Research hospital in Chicago looks to the future of rehabilitation

Aug. 17, 2011

HDR Architecture and Gensler have joined to design the new Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Research Hospital. Modern biomedical science implemented into a clinical environment will help bolster patient recovery, launching the world-class institute into a new rehabilitation paradigm.

Conceptual planning calls for the hospital to expand capacity to admit more patients and to open the world’s first Ability Lab, a new approach in helping patients recover from strokes, neurological disorders, and traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. Incorporating the institute’s leading research and clinical activities directly in a patient care setting, doctors and therapists will be able to maximize treatment with a focus on advanced patient ability.
