Water heater retrofit saves school district $5,000 a year

Oct. 13, 2010

Gary Persechetti, director of public facilities for Chelmsford (Mass.) High School, had a problem. He needed to replace two seven-year-old gas-fired water heaters that were reaching the point of no return. Engineers from New England Combustion recommended installing a brazed plate-style, stainless steel SmartPlate water-to-water heater. Retrofitted to its existing storage plant instead of replacing it, the SP33 heater and 200-gallon boiler-side buffer tank eliminate the older storage-dependent system and are saving more than $5,000 a year in domestic hot water expenses.
