A new 25,000-sf, four-story multifamily building has been completed in Cambridge, Mass., expanding affordable housing options in the Boston suburb. Built by Essex Builders Corp., Westwood, Mass., and designed by VMY Vitols Architects, Newton Upper Falls, Mass., Elm Place will provide 19 affordable apartments with street-level retail space and a 24-kW solar power plant. Part of the Just-A-Start nonprofit program, which aims to bring affordable housing solutions to Cambridge residents, the apartment building is expected to achieve LEED Gold certification. By mid-summer, 15 of the 19 apartments had already been leased.
