Campus center at Lawrence University unites nature with architecture

Nov. 10, 2011

The Warch Campus Center at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., is a neutral space for students and faculty to commingle. KSS Architects designed the $34 million, four-story, 107,000-sf center, which strives to unite natural and built environments of the university while engaging academic and recreational activities.

Nestled near the Fox River, the center has received numerous design and sustainability awards, including LEED Gold certification. Concrete, stone, and glass were the main building materials used to evoke the natural landscape of the campus. Elements include a main dining room, café, campus and convenience stores, event rooms, student organization offices, and activity spaces.
