The Alpensia Resort in Pyeonchang, South Korea, designed by Cuningham Group Architecture, headquartered in Minneapolis, will host the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. The resort, which was completed in 2009, includes a five-star hotel and large central promenade. A second piazza, family hotel, water park, and conference center will accommodate athletes, event personnel, and spectators. Inspired by the architecture of a traditional Alpine Village, the resort is nestled in two large valleys in Korea’s Gangwon-do province. In addition to shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues, the resort will also host a ski jump and other major sports facilities on its premises.
